Laser Toenail Fungus Removal - The Facts!

What Is Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis)?

Toenail fungus is a condition that causes the toenails to thicken and turn a yellow or cloudy color. Long-term exposure to moist environments is the leading cause of toenail fungus.  If left untreated, toenail fungus can lead to serious infections, as the fungus services on eating your skin and nails. Examples of moist environments where toenail fungus lives includes:

Swimming pools
Inside of shoes
Communal showers
Spas
Gyms

Toenail fungus begins on the nail but if left untreated, it can work its way under the nail and damage the nail and skin. The protocols developed at BARELaser Toenail Fungus Laser treatment protocol for removing toenail fungus is proven effective.

How does laser removal of toenail fungus work?

Laser treatments for toenail fungus work by shining a focused beam of light in a narrow range, more commonly known as a laser, into a toenail infected with toenail fungus or onychomycosis. The laser penetrates the toenail and vaporizes fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate where toenail fungus exists. The Quanta Light A Star laser is a targeted laser tuned to a specific frequency that effects cells that are responsible for the toenail fungus infection.

How long does the toenail laser treatment take?

It takes approximately 15 minutes to treat an infected toe's fungus. If you have more than one toe infected with toenail fungus, it may take longer.

Is there any down time after receiving the treatment on all the toe nails?

There is no downtime following the procedure. You can go about your daily schedule immediately following the visit!

What should I expect from my treatment for toenail laser removal?

You will be able to walk out of the office just as well as you walked in, you might even have a smile on your face. The laser toenail fungus treatment will not harm you in any way. Toenails are dead cells, the laser targets living fungus inside the nail.  During the procedure a technician will ask you to indicate any discomfort, and if it is felt will adjust the laser treatment accordingly.  Please note that each physician will determine the specific course of action depending on their diagnosis and the equipment involved.

Is this a safe effective way to removal toenail fungus?

The studies on laser treatment for toenail fungus are extremely encouraging, and to date, no known side effects have been found. Long-term effects for laser treatment for toenail fungus are promising. Coupled with good hygiene of the toes, and follow up treatment with a topical anti-fungal oil,  patients should experience good, long-term result in the elimination of the toe nail fungus.

Is toenail laser treatment painful?

The focused, targeted laser light beam will have no effect on healthy tissue, and will only target the infected areas. A patient undergoing laser nail treatment for fungus removal procedures might experience minimal discomfort during or after the treatment.
