Toenail Fungus Questions from BARELaser customers

What Is Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis)?

Toenail fungus is a condition that causes the toenails to thicken and turn a yellow or cloudy color. Long-term exposure to moist environments is the leading cause of toenail fungus.  If left untreated, toenail fungus can lead to serious infections, as the fungus services on eating your skin and nails. Examples of moist environments where toenail fungus lives includes:

Swimming pools
Inside of shoes
Communal showers
Spas
Gyms

Toenail fungus begins on the nail but if left untreated, it can work its way under the nail and damage the nail and skin. The protocols developed at BARELaser Toenail Fungus Laser treatment protocol for removing toenail fungus is proven effective.

What is the success rate of laser toenail fungus removal?

After treating hundreds of patients, performing over thousands of treatments BARELaser success rates are over 95%.  BARELaser is achieving significant results from our clients who adhere to our specific program.  Ask us about our full-line of Tetra Corporation's Formula 3 - Post-treatment anti-fungal oil, FungiFoam - topical anti-fungal foam, and Clean Sweep - antimicrobial spray to inhibit the growth of odor causing bacteria, fungus, mold in shoes.

Are treatments guaranteed to work?

Over 95% of BARELaser's toenail fungus patients are seeing excellent results.  Why? - BARELaser's unique laser toenail fungus removal protocols, FDA approved Quanta Light A Star, and complete line of physician approved anti-fungal and anti-microbial oil, foam and spray.  Patients who adhere to our post-treatment toenail fungus care program stand the best chance of getting as close to guaranteed results as possible.

How many treatments does it usually take to rid a nail of toenail fungus?

This depends on a number of factors including the severity of the infection, the length of time a patient has suffered from toenail fungus, and how well they follow the post-treatment steps.  It's possible to treat minor cases of toenail fungus with a single laser treatment - but don't be fooled.  Over the past few years we have evaluated, documented, photographed and treated hundreds of toenail fungus patients at BARELaser using our time-tested protocols - and the vast majority of BARELaser toenail fungus patients start out with a three treatment package.  Call to day for a consultation so we can assess the situation and provide our expert opinion on the best way to use laser toenail removal techniques to remove unwanted and unsightly toenail fungus.

How soon will I see results?

This is where the "patience of patients" is a virtue.  On average, any toenail will replace itself every 6 to 9 months through natural growth!  Each BARELaser toenail fungus patient sees results from laser toenail fungus removal within the first 3 months as the new nail replaces the old- the time between appointments at BARELaser.  Patients can expect to see improvement in their nails at a rate consistent with that of the new nail growth.

What if I have only one toenail that needs treatment?

We strongly recommend treating all toenails on the same foot, regardless of whether they demonstrate outward signs of toenail fungus (Onychomycosis).   Onychomycosis, the fungus at the root of problem, may initially show on a single toenail but it can easily spread to other toes and feet.  The vast majority of BARELaser toenail fungus removal patients choose to treat all toes on a single foot, sometimes treating both feet in order to prevent occurrence of infection or re-infection.

Can I use nail polish on my toes during or after the treatment?

You need to have the nail polish removed for the treatment. It's recommended that you hold off on nail polish following the treatment for two weeks.

Fingernail Fungus - Can this be used to treat a fingernail instead of a toe nail?

Yes - This can be similar and we can treat this type of fungus.  Please give BARELaser a call at 720-626-0267 to discuss any specific questions on laser treatments for the removal of fingernail fungus, or to schedule a free consultation.

Are laser toenail fungus treatments safe?

At BARELaser we have treated hundreds of patients without incident!  In clinical studies on a variety of lasers there have been no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities or known side effects from use of lasers to treat toenail fungus infection. As you may know, the use of oral nail fungus medication available today for treatment of fungus nails carries with it possible systemic involvement (commonly the liver and kidney). The treatment of toenail fungus (Onychomycosis) does not have the side effects of taking oral medication.

Do I have to take any drugs as part of the laser toenail fungus treatment?

Drugs are NOT required. As part of the BARELaser toenail fungus removal prototcol, our physician prescribed topical anti-microbial and/or anti-fungal treatments from Tetra Corporation are proven to be clinically effective in speeding up the removal of toenail fungus as well as preventing the  occurrence of infection or re-infection.

Does my insurance pay for this?

Currently the laser toenail fungus procedure is not included as a health insurance benefit in any plan that we know of; however, the initial foot consultation is free. Insurance plans will consider laser toenail fungus treatment as a cosmetic / aesthetic procedure and therefore do not provide coverage.
